Class 7 went to visit the Tropical Butterfly Farm at North Anston for their school visit. The day was very wet, but we had a fantastic time. We went in the tropical butterfly house and saw the ants marching across the vine. There was a crocodile, bats, stick insects, fish and butterflies for us to look at.
We went inside the bird hide to watch the birds and we saw some squirrels. Then we walked around the farm and saw the different animals including a baby meerkat. Next it was time for our picnic lunch, luckily we were able to eat inside, not out in the rain.
After lunch we had a special talk from Rebecca, who brought a rabbit to show us and let us stroke it. We learnt that some animals have fur or hair so they are mammals, some have feathers and they are birds and those with scales are reptiles. We were really excited looking at the animals and we were so well behaved that Rebecca let everyone have a turn at holding the owl. We had to put a special glove on and then Bubbles the owl sat on our hand. Rebecca brought a snake to show us, we could only stroke it as it didnt like been handled a lot. It was time to go home after this and we had had a brilliant day even though it rained all day.
Since our visit to the Butterfly Farm we have made clay mini-beasts and written a thank you letter to Rebecca. The visit was a starting point to our work on Our World, which we will be learning about this half term.
